Effect Political Change

Washington County, Georgia and its citizens are the beginning of what it takes for responsible and responsive government. If we do not take responsibility ourselves, then those in elective and appointive political positions will either do right (hopefully) or wrong (regrettably). One person cannot do this alone. It takes ordinary citizens, young and old and rich or poor, making their voices heard in their governance. This is a call to all citizens in Washington County, Georgia to join the Democratic Party of Washington County to insure that their best interests are always served.

The Georgia State Government has redrawn district lines to become effective for the 2006 election cycle. The exact shape of the "new" District 12 runs north from Augusta to south almost to Savannah and west from Baldwin County to east of Burke County. It is a generally narrow and relatively long district. It will remove Washington County from Representative Jim Marshall's Eighth District. It should be noted that these district dimensions are general and not precise, but serve to give an idea of how the district is configured.

Since this is a new district, it is incumbent upon the citizens within the district to organize to have an impact on local, state and federal government. To not get involved early in the political entities within this district would be detrimental. Citizens of Washington County should make contact with the democratic political hierarchy of Richmond, Columbia, Jefferson, Glascock, Johnson, Emanuel,Toombs, Wilkinson, Effingham, Candler, and Bulloch Counties to strategize a grassroots effort to promote the democratic principals articulated by Howard Dean and the DNC. The Democratic Party of Georgia should also be in the vanguard of this grassroots effort.

All democrats should begin now to make efforts for ensuring victory for democrats, locally and statewide. Let's take our government back. We deserve it.
